Back to Back Long weeks

Weeks 16 & 17 of the training program I have been following were nuts!! The first of the two hard weeks was not as hard as the second. My legs were spent on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday of the Second hard week. On Saturday when I started out my long run it was so much harder than when I started that exact same run the week before.

When I started my 12 mile run on the second Sunday however I felt much better than I did on the 12 the Sunday before it was the strangest thing. I think it was purely mental. I think on Sunday the 17th the 12 was so hard because I knew I had another brutal week ahead of me and then on the 24th the run was much easier because I knew I was starting my taper and that would be the last run over 10 that I had to do until race day.

Training for this race I have not been as mental about my running performance as I was when training for the Blues Cruise 50K. I have been running injury free for months and month now and that really had built my confidence up but the last two weeks the mental monster started to creep back in. 

I have just started my taper and last week and even just yesterday I was all gung-ho to taper and now that it is here Im losing my mind already haha. I know my body needs this time to recover from all the running I have been doing the past few weeks. I really need to trust this training schedule that I have been following for the past 17 weeks, and trust myself. Today I have to run 4 tomorrow 8 Thursday 6 Saturday 10 and Sunday 8. Next week I will be on vacation so this taper couldn't have come at a better time! I remember stressing about my long runs last year on vacation and that wont be the case this year!

Healthy Body = Healthy Mind

I have been an a quest for Health & Wellness for many years now. I started thinking more about my health as I was getting closer to my 30s. I had been clean off drugs and alcohol for many years which was a huge plus, but I knew there was more that needed to be done. I quit smoking before my 28th birthday. That single action made me realize how much more I wanted to do for myself. Soon after I quit smoking, I started walking then I started running. Running was not always my passion it was very tough at first and I will admit that I did not love it right away. It took me some time to build a strong pace that I felt comfortable breathing with. I also did yoga on and off for many years and always loved that practice. When my girlfriend did her 200 Hour Yoga teacher training my practice got more intense and I was peaceful. No Lunch Run for Me

Yesterday I was unable to run during my lunch break. My first reaction was self pity but then I quickly had to realize my little girl and her health are far more important. My daughter has been sick on and off for a few weeks and her breathing was very labored and I knew she had to go back to the doctor. Thankfully I was able to get her an appointment that day but it meant leaving work for a few hours and missing my lunch hour. When I start a training plan I tend to get a little obsessive about sticking to as much as I can. I don't know when I became such a rule follower. I have a good friend that I get to work with each day and he came to my rescue yesterday and put me in my place and out of my pity party. Thank you. I need to remember that things are going to change and everything can not always go as planned. When I have acceptance my life is far more serene.
