The Green Monster is coming!!

48 Days until I run the Green Monster ! I have been training for about 12 weeks now but honestly when I am not training? I got in a good long run on Saturday and pushed it to the limit for sure. Yesterday my left heel felt off not sore just off so I decided to walk and do some yoga in place of another longish run. I am feeling strong but I know this race will challenge me as a runner for sure. Total elevation climb is 7690 feet. I have been running 3-4 times a week plus working out at Thomas DeVietro Strength & Conditioning 3 days a week and also doing yoga. I feel good about my physical training now I need to crack down on my nutrition and my mind!  The mind is the most powerful thing during a long race like this. I think this is what draws me so close to yoga. Yes I love to be active and move my body but I love the grounding and breathing that I learn through my yoga practice. If you have not done yoga before very often towards the beginning of the practice the teacher w

Broad Street Nerves

Hey Everyone! Broad Street is in 4 Days!! If you are not someone who is local, Broad Street is the largest 10 miler in the Country and it takes place in Philadelphia, PA. The Broad Street event started out in the early 80's and has grown and grown ever since. In 2012 the race had over 40,000 runners!  The street that the event is named after is approximately 13 miles long making it perfect for this event. Runners will make there way to the starting area at Erie Avenue and the event finishes inside the Navy Yard. This event is a must run for anyone in the area however due to the event size participants must enter via a lottery to get selected to run. The first time I entered the Broad Street lottery (2014) I was not running distance yet. I decided to sign up and if I got accepted I would start training. Low and behold I got accepted. I started a 10 week training plan and was hooked on training and distance running ever since! I was completely intimated by the size of the eve

Healthy Body = Healthy Mind

I have been an a quest for Health & Wellness for many years now. I started thinking more about my health as I was getting closer to my 30s. I had been clean off drugs and alcohol for many years which was a huge plus, but I knew there was more that needed to be done. I quit smoking before my 28th birthday. That single action made me realize how much more I wanted to do for myself. Soon after I quit smoking, I started walking then I started running. Running was not always my passion it was very tough at first and I will admit that I did not love it right away. It took me some time to build a strong pace that I felt comfortable breathing with. I also did yoga on and off for many years and always loved that practice. When my girlfriend did her 200 Hour Yoga teacher training my practice got more intense and I was peaceful. That same friend and yoga mentor moved to Spain and my practice suffered I just did not keep up with it while she was away but I got more into running during that tim

Super Bowl Sunday Treats

This year was the first year I ever went to a Super Bowl Party. Honestly the only reason I may have went was because I missed my friends and I also wanted to make yummy treats to eat! Naturally Super Bowl Sunday turned out to be on a weekend that I had Yoga Teacher Training so that meant I was not going to have as much time to prepare treats to bring. Thankfully I have the best Snack & Party Food Pinterest Board that ever existed. I found two recipes that I Pinned years ago. One Being Hot Corn Dip and the Other being a Mint Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball . Both were extremely easy to make and both tasted freaking amazing. I did not have any Mint Extract but thankfully I have lots of Essential Oils on hand! I used two drops of Peppermint Oil and two drops of Spearmint Oil. I'm hoping to take the time this weekend to get some baking done. I try to bake something at least once a week it really makes me happy and it certainly helps to have something tasty in the house. I just

Milk Making Cookies

A very dear friend of mine welcomed her Baby Boy to the world this weekend. I am so thrilled to meet this little man. My daughter is just as excited as I am we knew at once we had to bake something for Faith to enjoy. I decided to bake Lactation Cookies to help keep mamma happy and healthy so she can keep baby Gabriel happy and healthy. These cookies are extremely delicious for everyone to enjoy but have lots of great ingredients to help keep a nursing mothers supply strong. With a name like lactation cookies they help keep others away from our precious cookies in fear that they may start lactating hahaha. Congratulations Faith , John & Big Sister Sophia! Milk Making Lactation Cookies Adapted from Gusty Mama Preheat oven to 350 Ingredients: 2 sticks of butter 3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar 3/4 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour (King Arthur) 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking so
